Let’s get started with a little how to, Rapid-Straps makes this easy.  We will look at mounting kayaks on their side using the crossbars and post on your rack first.

Here are some factory installed crossbars with Yakima Stackers

Start by separating each of the Rapid-Straps by releasing the cam buckle.

For the “arrowhead” type posts, take the strap attached to the cam buckle and put the post though the loop on the opposite end from the cam buckle and secure it over the post on your rack.  If you have another type of post put the strap around the post and back through the loop of the strap to secure (same way that we secure the strap around the crossbar).

Next take the other part of the strap without the cam buckle and loop the strap around the crossbar of the rack.

Repeat the process with the other strap.  It should look like this.

Stack the boats up on the crossbars.

Place the straps around the boats, how?  Toss the straps with the cam buckle over the top of the boats and grab’em.

Place the strap that was tied off around the crossbar through the cam buckle and pull tight, as tight as you can, Rapid-Straps will protect your gear from getting damaged!

Done……almost, VERY IMPORTANT step, once the straps are secure though the cam buckle tie a simple overhand knot with the lose end to ensure the strap can not slip.  Little note here ALL cam buckles will slip, and because of the heavy tubular webbing that Rapid-Straps use slippage is possible, so PLEASE tie a simple overhand knot, you are responsible for securing your load!!  Here’s how

Last a little trick to secure any excess strap and keep the straps from whipping around in the wind and fraying

It is recommended that you use a bowline and tie the front of the boats to a secure point on the front of the vehicle, especially with longer boats over 8 feet long.

Now, you’re done.  Takes me 8 minutes for 2 boats, game on and see if you can do it faster!!
